The lowest bidder for construction of the Stuart Street extension project in Fort Oglethorpe was accepted by the City Council at the Jan. 11 meeting.

The project was awarded to Talley Construction Co., which submitted a bid of about $482,000.

ARCADIS engineer Jimmy Hyma said the construction contract will be for five months, but the company might postpone beginning the construction until the weather warms up.

The city’s request for bids went out on Dec. 17.

The extension will allow residents of Battlewood Drive to turn left onto Battlefield Parkway at the City Hall Drive traffic light and for them to access the walking trails. It will also give the police department another way to access that part of the city.
