Catoosa County is hoping to finalize its contract for “Project Hilltop” later today or Tuesday, commissioner Ken Marks said.

“We’re trying to close the deal today or tomorrow,” Marks said, “and are shooting for a special called meeting to vote on Wednesday.”

The county hoped to have the contract finalized late last week and to hold the special called meeting today, but Marks said the contract is currently in the hands of county attorney Chad Young for further review.

“We’re waiting for the contract with our fingers crossed,” Marks said.

He said once the contract is finalized, he knows the county is in support of the interested company, which is ru-mored to be Costco.

“It’s like we’re sitting on pins and needles,” Marks said.

It is expected that Costco will bring 125-250 jobs to Catoosa, with about half the jobs being full-time. It is to be built off I-75 at Cloud Springs and Scruggs Roads.

The closest Costco to Chattanooga is more than 75 miles away in Huntsville, Ala. There are two stores in Atlanta and one in Alpharetta and Kennesaw.

Costco’s website describes the company as a “membership warehouse club.” Gold Star and Business members pay $50. The highest membership is Executive, which costs an additional $50 and gives a 2 percent reward on most Costco purchases.

The company sells appliances, furniture, electronics, food and equipment for cars.
