Head-on collision slows traffic in Ringgold
At approximately 1:35 p.m. Thursday police and paramedics responded to a two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Cherokee Valley Road in Ringgold.
Both vehicles, a Jeep Wrangler and 1995 Ford Bronco, sustained extensive damage.
The incident apparently occurred when the driver of the Jeep Wrangler attempted to turn left onto Cherokee Valley Road and struck the Ford Bronco, which was traveling northbound on U.S. 41.
Both parties appeared to be shaken up, but there were no serious injuries reported.
The crash occurred just in front of the “Stuff 4 Less” variety outlet on U.S. 41.
“We heard the boom from inside the store,” said storeowner Joel Chandler. “It sounded like some sort of bomb went off just outside the door. The Bronco was up on two wheels, and I was dialing 911 before the vehicle had even stopped completely.”
The driver of the Ford Bronco said he was on his way to work when the collision occurred.
“I was headed to Walgreen's to pick up a prescription on my way to work,” said Brad Crane, 47. “The funny thing is, I usually take the interstate. All I can say is thank God for seatbelts and airbags.”
“There didn’t appear to be any serious injuries,” said Sgt. Dycus of the Ringgold Police Department, who was one of the first officers on the scene.
Investigation of the wreck was quickly turned over to the Georgia State Patrol.
