Ringgold Tigersharks senior swimmer Mitch Chow went out with a huge splash.

The 18-year-old son of Jim and Toni Chow, was one of two recipients at the City meet on July 14 of the Jennifer Fugate Award that includes a $500 Scholarship.

"It was huge for me, knowing Jennifer was a Tigershark and my brother also got the award years ago," he said.

Mitch Chow had the opportunity to complete his youth swimming career under his brother Chris Chow, who coaches the Tigersharks.

Chris was also the recipient of the Jennifer Fugate Award as a senior swimmer.

Mitch finished second in the breaststroke (time of 28.6), third in fly (25.53), third in the medley relay (146.18) and third in freestyle relay (134.60).

He plans to attend Georgia Tech where he will major in industrial engineering and compete in club swimming with his big brother.

The state meet was one of the toughest Mitch said he has ever competed in.

"I think it was good because a lot of the little kids that were afraid to get in the water ended up swimming for points at state," he said. "The little 7-and-8 boys ended up getting fifth in the state"

Mitch said he thinks part of the reason he and his fellow swimmers have had success is because of his brother.

He said he would also like to thank his mother and father for supporting them both throughout the year.
