It is the first sales tax holiday of its type since 2009, when it was last instituted by the Georgia General Assembly.
“It’s an excellent opportunity for parents to save money on basic necessities when getting their children ready for the coming school year,” said Department of Revenue commissioner Doug MacGinnitie.
Clothing and footwear of $100 or less per item will be exempt of sales tax, along with personal computers and computer-related accessories with a purchase price of $1,000 or less. General school supplies used in the classroom or in classroom-related activities with a sales price of $20 or less per item are also sales tax-free.
More information concerning the sales tax holiday and tax exempt items can be found at the Georgia Department of Revenue website at etax.dor.ga.gov.
