As the new year begins, local freelance columnist Roger Sherrill will be submitting a fresh topic for his readers in The Catoosa County News and Walker County Messenger.

His new weekly column, called “Shooters Corner,” will provide a basic forum for discussion on guns and shoot-ing sports. After two years Sherrill is retiring both his “Military Chat” column regarding soldiers and troops serving in the military and his “Operation Coffee Cup” project, an endeavor designed for mailing supplies and comfort items such as coffee, food and microwaves to active soldiers.

Sherrill, who has been involved in shooting sports for many years, said the new column will present such topics as hunting, target shooting, reloading, new firearms coming out and “just about anything you would like to talk about concerning guns and what makes them tick”.

Sherrill said the only way he’s been able to receive any new information has been from friends, the internet and by purchasing monthly magazines, so a column would be an excellent way to connect those with mutual interests in guns and gun-related sports.

“Shooting sports is a big deal, especially around here in Georgia and Tennessee,” said Sherrill, “but there don’t seem to be any public forums on television, radio, or any local newspapers that discusses it in depth, so I thought it would be a good idea. I thought it would be great for those of us that participate in the sport to have somewhere to discuss issues and stories or just talk about the simple enjoyment we have with the sports.”

Sherrill said he welcomes any thoughts and questions on the new material, but stressed there would be no dis-cussion of legal issues or laws in the column and readers are advised to contact experts connected with law en-forcement for any type of legal questions. “Shooters Corner” will abide by all local, state and federal laws.

Roger Sherrill lives in Ringgold and can be reached by email at tandemjumper@catt.com.
