COMMUNITY · The Chattanooga History Center will present Cherokee Life, a program for parent/child teams, from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 9. Children 6 to 8 years old are eligible, and each child is to be accompanied by one parent, grandparent or other caregiver. The fee of $10 admits a child and an adult. COMMUNITY · Walker County Emergency Services will offer a free class in community CPR for ages 14 and up from 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 7. The class will be held at Fire Station #1 in Rock Spring, in front of Georgia Northwestern Technical College. Pre-registration is required to ensure adequate course materials. COMMUNITY · YMCA swim lessons will be held at North Georgia Healthcare in Ringgold for children ages 3-12 from now through Aug. 30. COMMUNITY · Junior golfers up to age 18 are invited to attend summer golf camps at the LaFayette Golf Course. The camps will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. each day at a cost of $60 per camp. Tuesdays will include work on the driving range, Wednesdays will be spent on the practice greens, and Thursdays will be reserved for on course work. The camps will be directed and taught by Eddie Jackson, a former PGA Tour player who has spent the past 27 years as a teaching professional. ENTERTAINMENT · Chris McDaniel, formerly with multi-platinum selling Confederate Railroad, will appear at Sacred Sounds Friday, June 8. at 7:30 p.m. at the Ringgold Depot, corner of Depot Street and U.S. 41 in Ringgold, for the Share America Foundation. Also appearing will be harmonica player Otis Head and the barbershop quartet Rock City 4. Randall Franks from TV’s “In the Heat of the Night” will emcee. The event is a fundraiser for the Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship Fund helping musicians achieve higher education. Donations for tickets are adults: $5, Children 5 and under free with adult. ENTERTAINMENT · The Riverbend Festival will begin Friday, June 8 and continues through Sunday, June 17 (except for Monday, June11 — which is when the Bessie Smith Strut is held) on the 21st Century Waterfront along the Tennessee River in Chattanooga. Bands ranging from classic rock, jam bands, country, urban and bluegrass will perform. Riverbend draws more than 650,000 patrons annually. COMMUNITY · Parkridge East Hospital is hosting a pelvic pain seminar on the topic of endometriosis from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 8 in the facility’s Birth Place classroom. This event will help attendees to understand more about symptoms and treatment for endometriosis, one of the most common causes of chronic pelvic pain. Dr. Del Ashcraft will give a brief presentation followed by a question and answer session. Light refreshments will be provided. COMMUNITY · The annual Highway 95 yard sale will be held Friday, June 8, and Saturday, June 9, starting at 8 a.m. The sale begins in Rock Spring and winds along Highway 151. Enjoy good bargains and food.

COMMUNITY · An antique typewriter exhibit will open Friday, June 8, at Chattooga Academy in LaFayette. The exhibit features Royal, Underwood and Smith typewriters, as well as Imperial and Smith-Corona typewriters. An Oliver No. 9 is also on display. The typewriters were manufactured approximately from between 1915-1950. A volunteer will be on-hand to assist visitors with the exhibit on Sundays from 1-3 p.m. Chattooga Academy is open from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. most days Monday through Friday. COMMUNITY · The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 16-02 Chattanooga, will provide a boating safety class Saturday, June 9. The class will be held at the U.S. Coast Guard station at 3551 Old Harrison Pike in Chattanooga. Sign-in starts at 8 a.m. and class lasts until 4:30 or 5 p.m. Seating is limited and preregistration is required. The cost of the class is $30 per person, which includes class book and lunch. Any Tennessee resident born after January 1, 1989, must show the TWRA-issued wallet Boating Safety Education Certificate as proof of successful completion of the course. An additional class will be offered by USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 16-02 in July as well. ENTERTAINMENT · On Saturday, June 9, Bluegrass Bands Helping Hands will present “An evening with the John Cowan Band” to benefit The Miracle League of Whitfield County. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. at the historic Dalton Freight Depot. The concert is co-sponsored by the Downtown Dalton Development Authority.
