Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rhett Owens of Birmingham, Ala., announce the engagement of their daughter, Milner Benedict Owens, to Joseph Martin Staub, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Paul Staub of Chickamauga. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Frances Staub of Rochester, N.Y., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Houston Jewell Jr. of Chickamauga.

The bride-elect, a Foundation Fellow and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, graduated summa cum laude with honors from the University of Georgia with degrees in Spanish, biochemistry and molecular biology. She is a member of Phi Mu social sorority and was presented at the 2008 Heritage Ball. She now attends the University of Alabama School of Medicine.

The groom-elect is a graduate of McCallie School and the University of Georgia with degrees in international affairs and African studies. He is a member of Kappa Sigma social fraternity. He attends Cumberland School of Law.

The wedding will be at the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Ala., in January 2011.
