LaFayette Downtown Development Authority, in cooperation with a regional fitness initiative, will host a “Walk and Talk” Saturday, Oct. 1, in downtown LaFayette.

The event, held in conjunction with Heritage Day, begins at 8:30 a.m. at Joe Stock Memorial Park. Participants will walk about one mile around downtown and then return to the park.

Participants will follow portions of the route of the “Battle of LaFayette” brochure, which describes the June 24, 1864, battle.

Free water and T-shirts will be provided to walkers. The free event is open to the public and will last about one hour.

Participants are invited to bring a breakfast snack to enjoy as they walk.

The event will be cancelled if weather is inclement.

Georgia Department of Transportation and Coosa Valley Regional Development Center have worked with communities throughout the region to sponsor the Bike! Walk! Northwest Georgia program. The program promotes bicycling and walking as exercise, eco-friendly transportation and family-friendly fun.
