Qualifying fees set for Walker County elections

Qualifying fees for the July 31 primary and the Nov. 6 general elections in Walker County have been released by commissioner Bebe Heiskell.

Thirteen seats, including Heiskell’s position as sole commissioner, are up for re-election

For interested candidates, official qualification begins at 9 a.m. on May 23 and runs until noon on May 25.

Locations for qualification are to be determined by the committee of the candidate’s political party. Non-partisan candidates may qualify at the Walker County Board of Elections, which is located in the Walker County courthouse.

Qualifying fees for the 13 elected offices are as follows: county sole commissioner, $2,290; Walker County sheriff, $2,275; judge, Probate Court, $1,900; clerk, Superior Court, $1,900; tax commissioner, $1,900; judge, Magistrate Court, $1,900; judge, State Court, $1,800; solicitor, State Court, $1,800; county coroner, $836; Board of Education, Posts 1, 4 and 5, $36; county surveyor, $20.
