COMMUNITY · The mayor and council of the city of Fort Oglethorpe will hold a joint work session with the Catoosa County commissioners and county manager on Friday, March 30, at 1 p.m. at City Hall, 500 City Hall Drive in Fort Oglethorpe. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the “Old Gym” on U.S. 27 and any other issues that might arise.

COMMUNITY · Volunteers are needed at Nathan Anderson Cemetery in Ringgold Saturday, March 31, to mow, trim and clean up remaining trash and debris from last year’s tornado. Volunteers are asked to bring mowers, string trimmers and lawn tools beginning at 9 a.m. The Col. Joseph McConnel Camp 1879 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans plan to arrive at 1 p.m. to handle some heavier work. Donations are also needed to fund future mowing. COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is seeking volunteers for Civil War Trust Park Day, Saturday, March 31. Volunteers are needed for landscape restoration and plaque cleaning in the battlefield. Registration for the projects will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center. Projects will be completed by 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are invited to meet at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at 1:30 p.m. for a tour of the battlefield. All volunteers will receive a special Civil War Trust T-shirt. Long pants and sturdy, close-toed shoes are required for all projects. Bringing your own gloves is recommended, but gloves and other personal protective equipment will be supplied by the park. Please be sure to wear weather appropriate clothing—the project will continue rain or shine! During the work day, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Alexander’s Bridge Road will be closed from the intersection of Viniard-Alexander Road east across the bridge to the park boundary.
