RELIGIOUS · Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University will be offered at Boynton United Methodist Church starting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 12. This finance course will meet for 10 weeks on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. Lessons focus on budgeting, eliminating debt and planning. COMMUNITY · Ghost hunter Rick Howard will be giving a ghost walk at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 12 for the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library Teen Summer Reading Program. Teens who are interested in learning how to conduct paranormal investigations are encouraged to sign-up at the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library for a spot in the program. Parent chaperones are needed. Attendees will meet at the gazebo in Joe Stock Park and are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and bring a flashlight. The program will take place both in the park and in the cemetery. Sign-ups are happening now at the library. In the case of rain, the program will occur on Friday, June 15.

COMMUNITY · Junior golfers up to age 18 are invited to attend summer golf camps at the LaFayette Golf Course. The camps will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. each day at a cost of $60 per camp. Tuesdays will include work on the driving range, Wednesdays will be spent on the practice greens, and Thursdays will be reserved for on course work. The camps will be directed and taught by Eddie Jackson, a former PGA Tour player who has spent the past 27 years as a teaching professional. COMMUNITY · Second Baptist Church in association with the North Georgia YMCA and the Chattanooga Area Food Bank will offer a free summer lunch program Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning June 12 to kids and teens ages 0-17. Come from noon-1 p.m. and enjoy free food, activities and stories. This program is made available through a USDA grant. Participants are required to eat at Second Baptist Church. COMMUNITY · An antique typewriter exhibit is ongoing at Chattooga Academy in LaFayette. The exhibit features Royal, Underwood and Smith typewriters, as well as Imperial and Smith-Corona typewriters. An Oliver No. 9 is also on display. The typewriters were manufactured approximately from between 1915-1950. A volunteer will be on-hand to assist visitors with the exhibit on Sundays from 1-3 p.m. Chattooga Academy is open from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. most days Monday through Friday. COMMUNITY · The Rossville Public Library will host a zombie night for the tweens and teens Thursday, June 14, from 2-6 p.m. Everyone will get a tutorial on zombie makeup. Then they get to make each other up as zombies, play zombie tag and make a mini zombie movie. Zombie makeup and fake blood provided. If you want to have a more authentic look, please bring a shirt that you do not care about to rip up and turn into zombie clothes.

COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanooga have extended their partnership to include free monthly guided historical bicycle rides to Moccasin Bend National Archeological District. The monthly bike ride for June will take place on Thursday, June 14, and will begin at 6 p.m. The tour will begin at Outdoor Chattanooga, located in Coolidge Park, at the base of the Walnut Street Bridge, 200 River Street in Chattanooga. Ride length is approximately five miles (two hours) on flat to moderately hilly terrain. The ride is appropriate for adults and children ages eight and older when accompanied by an adult. All participants are encouraged to wear helmets, but helmets are required for those participants 16 and under. While participants are encouraged to bring their own bicycles, a limited number of loaner bicycles from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bicycle Fleet will be available for riders five feet tall and over at no charge, thanks to sponsorship from the Friends of the Park and the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. Reservations for bicycles are required by calling Outdoor Chattanooga at 423-643-6888.

Twelve basic law enforcement recruits will graduate. The speaker at the ceremony will be Dr. Cathy Vann, GNTC’s associate vice president for academic affairs. A graduate will be honored for academic distinction and for the “Top Gun” award for excellence in marksmanship.
