COMMUNITY · Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga will present an update of Imagine Chattanooga 20/20 at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. Imagine Chattanooga 20/20 is the region’s new cultural plan developed as a result of the input of more than 400 members of the community. The update will include information about initial action steps in the areas of diversity, education, downtown development and economic development. ENTERTAINMENT · The Riverbend Festival is ongoing and continues through Sunday, June 17 (except for Monday, June 11 — which is when the Bessie Smith Strut is held) on the 21st Century Waterfront along the Tennessee River in Chattanooga. Bands ranging from classic rock, jam bands, country, urban and bluegrass will perform. Riverbend draws more than 650,000 patrons annually. COMMUNITY · An Ice Cream Festival at Ruby Falls runs daily from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. throughout the month of June. COMMUNITY · An antique typewriter exhibit is ongoing at Chattooga Academy in LaFayette. The exhibit features Royal, Underwood and Smith typewriters, as well as Imperial and Smith-Corona typewriters. An Oliver No. 9 is also on display. The typewriters were manufactured approximately from between 1915-1950. A volunteer will be on-hand to assist visitors with the exhibit on Sundays from 1-3 p.m. Chattooga Academy is open from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. most days Monday through Friday. COMMUNITY · “Serving up Summer” summer food program runs through Friday, Aug. 24. Lunch for children ages infant-17 will be served from noon-1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at LaFayette 1st United Methodist Church, 301 South Main Street; and from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at Second Baptist Church, 500 West Main Street in LaFayette; and from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday at the LaFayette Housing Authority, 300 Oak Street. The program is sponsored by North Georgia YMCA and the Chattanooga Area Food Bank and is funded through a USDA grant.

COMMUNITY · Junior golfers up to age 18 are invited to attend summer golf camps at the LaFayette Golf Course. The camps will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. each day at a cost of $60 per camp. Tuesdays will include work on the driving range, Wednesdays will be spent on the practice greens, and Thursdays will be reserved for on course work. The camps will be directed and taught by Eddie Jackson, a former PGA Tour player who has spent the past 27 years as a teaching professional. COMMUNITY · The Rossville Public Library will host a zombie night for the tweens and teens Thursday, June 14, from 2-6 p.m. Everyone will get a tutorial on zombie makeup. Then they get to make each other up as zombies, play zombie tag and make a mini zombie movie. Zombie makeup and fake blood provided. If you want to have a more authentic look, please bring a shirt that you do not care about to rip up and turn into zombie clothes.

COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanooga have extended their partnership to include free monthly guided historical bicycle rides to Moccasin Bend National Archeological District. The monthly bike ride for June will take place on Thursday, June 14, and will begin at 6 p.m. The tour will begin at Outdoor Chattanooga, located in Coolidge Park, at the base of the Walnut Street Bridge, 200 River Street in Chattanooga. Ride length is approximately five miles (two hours) on flat to moderately hilly terrain. The ride is appropriate for adults and children ages eight and older when accompanied by an adult. All participants are encouraged to wear helmets, but helmets are required for those participants 16 and under. While participants are encouraged to bring their own bicycles, a limited number of loaner bicycles from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bicycle Fleet will be available for riders five feet tall and over at no charge, thanks to sponsorship from the Friends of the Park and the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. COMMUNITY · One Eleven restaurant on the square in downtown LaFayette will host a wine and cheese tasting fundraiser Thursday, June 14, from 5:30-8 p.m. Proceeds will go toward the restoration of six historic markers in LaFayette. Any blood donors receive a free ice cream treat as part of the Ice Cream Festival at Ruby Falls, as well as a Ruby Falls souvenir. And as always, Blood Assurance provides free snacks and a T-shirt to all who donate.
