Three of the Dizzy Dean District 1 baseball tournaments began play on Friday and all three will wrap up play over the next three days.

The final day of play in the 9-year-old tournament at the Chickamauga Recreation Association will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Host Chickamauga will face Gordon County with the winner to challenge Dade County at 4 p.m. in the finals. Should Dade County lose, a second championship would be played on Monday with first pitch at 6:30 p.m.

The 6-year-old tournament, being contested at the Rollins Industrial Park ballfields on Alabama Highway in Ringgold, is down to the final five teams with Dade County and the Boynton Generals set to face off in Sunday’s 1 p.m. winners’ bracket final for a spot in the championship.

Sunday’s 2:30 p.m. losers’ bracket game will pit LaFayette against Ringgold with the winner to face Chickamauga at 4 p.m. The winner of that contest will face the Dade County/Boynton loser at 6:30 p.m. on Monday with the winner of that game advancing to the finals and needing two wins to claim the title.

The 11-year-old tournament is taking place at Boynton where the final five teams will continue play on Sunday.

Host Boynton will square off with the Whitfield (County) Wolverines in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m., followed by the 3:30 winners’ bracket final between Chickamauga and the Whitfield (County) Lookouts. The day’s action will conclude at 5:30 p.m. with Rock Spring taking on the Boynton/Whitfield winner in another elimination game.

The winner of the 5:30 p.m. contest will move on to Monday’s 6 p.m. losers’ bracket final against the Chickamauga/Whitfield loser. The championship will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. with a second game, if necessary, to follow immediately.

The rest of the District 1 tournaments will begin play on June 22. The Murray County Recreation Department will host the 7-year-old tournament. LaFayette’s Lowell Green Complex will host the 8-year-old tournament. The 10-year-olds will play at the Rock Spring Athletic Association fields, and the 12-year-old tournament will be played at Edwards Park in Whitfield County.
