DIZZY DEAN BASEBALL SATURDAY UPDATE: Boynton Bandits, Boynton Bulls, Rossville Reds claim title game berths

The Boynton Bandits are into the championship game of the Dizzy Dean 7-year-old District 1 baseball tournament being held at the Murray County Recreation Department Complex.

The Bandits defeated LaFayette on Saturday after the Ramblers had knocked off Ringgold in a winners' bracket game.

Losers' bracket games saw Gordon County eliminate Whitfield County, Chickamauga eliminate Murray County, Ringgold eliminate Gordon County, and the Boynton Jackets eliminate Chickamauga.

Sunday's losers' bracket games will begin at 1 p.m. with the Boynton Jackets facing Ringgold. The winner will battle LaFayette at 2:15 with the winner of that game advancing to the finals against the Bandits Monday night at 6 p.m., needing to win twice to claim the title.

Saturday's play in the 8-year-old tournament in LaFayette saw Dade County defeat the Ringgold Red Sox in the winners' bracket. Other winners' bracket finals saw the Ringgold Tigers beat Chickamauga and the Whitfield Nitro take down Chattanooga Valley.

Moving on in the losers' bracket were LaFayette and the Whitfield Mad Dawgs. LaFayette outslugged Murray County and the Mad Dawgs bit Gordon County.

Action will continue on Sunday at 1 p.m. as the Red Sox face Rock Spring and LaFayette takes on the Mad Dawgs in elimination games. A 2:30 elimination game will pit Chickamauga against Chattanooga Valley.

Winners' bracket play will also at start at 2:30 as the Tigers face the Nitro. The winner will play again on Monday against Dade County at 6 p.m. with a championship berth on the line.

In the 10-year-old tournament being contested in Rock Spring, the Rossville Reds took down Whitfield County and Boynton on Saturday to punch their ticket to Monday night's championship game. Boynton won their first game on Saturday, beating Gordon County in the winners' bracket semifinals.

The Chickamauga Crushers knocked out Ringgold in an early morning elimination game before getting knocked out by Whitfield County. The bottom half of the losers' bracket saw Murray County defeat both LaFayette and Gordon County to stay alive.

Whitfield and Murray will square off at 2 p.m. on Sunday with the winner facing Boynton at 4 p.m. for the final spot in the title game.

And in Dalton, at Edwards Park, the Boynton Bulls rampaged through the Whitfield Bombers, 23-3, to move on to Sunday night's 12-year-old tournament championship game.

Losers' bracket games saw the Whitfield All-Stars take out Murray County and Gordon County. They will face their county rivals at 4 p.m. Sunday with the winner to battle Boynton at 6 p.m.
