While most of her classmates were off basking in the sun for their senior trips, and lounging by the pool, Climer enjoyed a two-week long stay at Beius Romania with the Evangelist Medical Missions.
She said the main goal of the trip was to spread the word of Jesus Christ through “Another Day Under the Sun” music camp.
The former Ringgold soccer standout and recipient of two scholarships to play in the band at Jacksonville State University, said there were few words to describe the love and compassion she felt following the
trip.
“I feel bad all the time now,” she said. “I feel so selfish when I fight with my brothers or sisters. We learned over there to just take
a step back and look at the big picture. It’s hard to do that sometimes because I have so many siblings. Jesus was a peacemaker.”
Savannah, daughter of The Catoosa County News reporter Sherry Dee Allen, has four brothers, and two sisters including a twin sister.
Savannah, who got to play her trumpet for the kids at the orphanage daily, said it was also a very “eye-opening experience to see how the
people of another culture live."
“They realize we all have the same God, but they appreciated Him more because they have less distractions,” she said.
Savannah said although they spoke different languages, music was their way of communicating with the kids. She said her group, including two other Ringgold Tiger Band members, Nehemiah Daves and Josiah Daves
taught the children of the orphanage sign language to go with their songs.
Savannah did a few solos at snack time, and said their favorite tunes were Georgia on My Mind and a warm up jingle done by the Ringgold
Tiger Band.
The trip made a step toward changing lives of those visited as well as those who were on the mission.
