Sen. Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) released the following statement regarding the upcoming T-SPLOST referendum on July 31:

“Much of the criticism towards the T-SPLOST is based on misinformation delivered by the opposition. Georgia’s transportation infrastructure is currently supported by the motor fuel tax; however, revenues are continually declining and we will soon be unable to afford improvements and basic maintenance to our roads. The T-SPLOST is crucial for job creation in Georgia. We are going to lose economic development opportunities and investments in our state without improvements to our existing infrastructure.

“All of the money collected in northwest Georgia as part of the T-SPLOST will stay in northwest Georgia, with 75 percent of the revenues going towards improvement projects and the other 25 percent split between counties and local cities. Residents will be able to see funded projects up close and personal and will not have to question where or how this money is being utilized.”

Sen. Jeff Mullis serves as chairman of the Transportation Committee. He represents the 53rd Senate district, which includes Chattanooga, Dade and Walker counties and portions of Catoosa County. He can be reached at his office in Atlanta at 404-656-0057 or by email at jeff.mullis@senate.ga.gov.

I find it interesting Senator Mullis claims criticism of TSPLOST stems from misinformation from opposition groups, yet gives no expamples. Sounds like an effort to discredit them with no proof.

Folks, before voting on TSPLOST, know the answer to a few questions: is your county a "donor" county or a "receiver county"? If there is a large economic development component to TSPLOST (and there is), why is it being sold as "congestion relief"? Wouldn't economic development take place anyway if the billions raised by TSPLOST were left in the private sector rather than confiscated by govt? Are you in greement with the concept of "regional governance", which is how the project lists were developed? Were any of your elected officials on your regional rountable, so you have recourse (re-elect them or not) if you're not happy?

The folks in Chickamauga ought to be real proud. Jeff Mullis is so incompetent it is embarrassing to me, and I live a long way from Chickamauga. He says that criticism of T SPLOST is based on misinformation. How would he know ? He did not even read the bill. The Chamber and Mullis' cronies say that Georgia ranks 49th in transportation spending. That is based on a 2006 study that ONLY included the excise tax. Mullis says that fuel tax revenue is declining, yet GDOT uses a chart that shows fuel tax revenue for 2010 at $853 Million, and in 2011 it INCREASED to $934 Million. How is that for misinformation Senator Incompetent ? He CLAIMS to be Republican, yet he says that T SPLOST will create jobs. B. Hussein Obama says the same thing. Government does NOT create net private sector job increases. Senator Incompetent says that Georgia will lose opportunities without improving our infrastructure. CNBC ranked Georgia 2nd in 2011 and last week rated Georgia 3rd for 2012, in terms of infrastructure and transportation. Georgia has ranked in the top ten in the US for the past ten years. Time for this Chump to be retired Chickamauga, get a real man to be your Senator.
