A head-on collision on U.S. 27 near East Reed Road in Walker County Tuesday, Nov. 6, left one driver dead.

The collision occurred as a Silver Nissan Altima traveling south crossed into the northbound lanes, grazing the guard rail and ricocheting into an oncoming vehicle, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The car hit a red Chevy sedan in the northbound lane, killing the driver, Harry Alan Kellett, 65, of LaFayette.

Extensive CPR and other life-saving techniques were used to try to save Kellett, but emergency workers were unable to revive him.

Kellett’s wife, Joy, was flown by a Lifeforce helicopter to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga.

The driver of the Altima was taken by ambulance to Erlanger by Hutcheson hospital in Fort Oglethorpe.

Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team conducted an investigation.

Charges are pending in the case, which is currently awaiting toxicology results, the state patrol said.

It would be in good taste to remove the photo of the female passenger being treated by the first responders. The photo does nothing more than add the "shock value" to the story. Please show respect for the family in this difficult time.
