Ringgold police detective Patrick Mason said he is “going through and following up” on leads in the robbery Monday night at Ringgold’s Walgreens.
After the story was publicized by local media, he received around a half a dozen leads from the public, Mason said.
At about 7:40 p.m. on June 29, an unidentified male stole Oxycontin from the pharmacy at gunpoint.
The robber entered the store about 30 minutes before the robbery to investigate the situation. He left a handbag on the shopping aisle in front of the pharmacy.
Later, when he returned, he picked up the bag, pulled a revolver from his waistband and jumped the pharmacy counter.
After ordering the staff on the floor, he told the pharmacist to open the cabinet where the Oxycontin was kept.
The robber jumped back over the counter and left the store approximately two minutes after he entered the store the second time.
He got into a small, red or maroon SUV, which was driven by a white female.
The suspects were last seen heading south on Alabama Highway.
As of Wednesday, the amount of stolen drugs had not been determined. However, Mason said he would estimate the amount to be about 20 or more bottles.
The street value of the pills is about $10 per pill.
Mason said he does not know if the man stole them to sell, to use or a combination of the two.
“For somebody that abuses painkillers, it’s highly desirable,” he said.
The robber is also suspected in a similar robbery that occurred on Jan. 27 at the same Walgreens, as well as another robbery on Jan. 5 at the Walgreens on East Brainerd Road in Chattanooga.
Here is a description of the robber: white male;, possibly in his 20s; 5-feet 6-nches to 5-feet 7-inches; about 150 pounds; wearing camouflage cargo shorts, white tennis shoes, tan or off-white long-sleeve T-shirt and red sunglasses; carrying a yellow nylon bag with blue han-dles.
A person convicted with armed robbery will face at least 15 years in prison and a maxi-mum of life in prison, according to Georgia law.
Previous robbery
Like the most recent robbery, an unidentified male took Oxycontin at gunpoint from the Ringgold Walgreens pharmacy on Jan. 27.
According to Mason:
At around 8:40 p.m. the suspect jumped the pharmacy counter, holding a gun.
He told the staff to get on the floor, while the pharmacist unlocked the cabinet to get to the drugs. Then, the suspect jumped the counter and left the store.
He was not seen leaving in a vehicle, but he did have a handbag like in Monday’s robbery.
Witnesses said the robber had brown hair and was in his 20s.
