Georgia Department of Transportation officials and Fort Oglethorpe Police Department closed Battlefield Parkway coming out of Fort Oglethorpe between Dietz Road and Wal-Mart at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Other major thoroughfares into and out of Fort Oglethorpe were also closed, including Reeds Bridge Road and Cloud Springs Road.



Motorists were directed to alternate routes.

According to one Fort Oglethorpe official, Battlefield Parkway has not been officially closed since 1992 when the city closed the road for six hours
