Catoosa County School Superintendent Beth Kellerhals presented preliminary zoning plans for the new Woodstation Elementary School, located off Colbert Hollow Road, at the Catoosa County Board of Education meeting Jan. 6.

According to Kellerhals, the preliminary plan designates almost half of the area currently zoned for Ringgold Elementary School and Ringgold Primary School to Woodstation. The southern portion of the Ringgold Middle School/Ringgold Elementary School zone from about Yates Springs Road south to the Walker/Catoosa County line, which includes Mt. Pisgah and Potts Roads, will be zoned for the new elementary school, which is scheduled to open in August.

Kellerhals said the rezoning will mean about 400 students of the approximately 1,300 students currently zoned for Ringgold Primary School and Ringgold Elementary will be moved to Woodstation Elementary, which will house grades K-5 and pre-kindergarten classes. She said according to the preliminary plan, about eight students zoned for Boynton Elementary School will also be moved to Woodstation.

The superintendent said school officials and parents have jointly developed the rezoning plan, but it will not be ready for final approval until the Feb. 3 school board meeting. The superintendent said in accordance with the law the new zoning changes will be advertised in The Catoosa County News before a vote is taken by the school board.

In other business, the Catoosa County Board of Education unanimously approved the regular 2004 meeting schedule. All meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of each month, except for April and July when both meetings will be moved to April 13 and July 13 to accommodate for spring break and the Fourth of July. All work sessions for the board are tentatively scheduled for the Thursday preceding regularly scheduled meetings
