Luke List of Ringgold finished second overall on Saturday in the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic at The Farm in Dalton.

The Vanderbilt University golfer shot 4-over 76 for 218 - just one shot behind champion Rhys Davies of Eastern Tennessee State University.

I made some mental mistakes that cost me the double bogeys," List said. "Obviously, I could have done better, but I'm learning. I'm getting closer and closer and eventually it will happen.

The U.S. Amateur runner-up bogeyed on the 10th hole, eagled No. 12, double bogeyed 15, bogeyed 16 and birdied 18 for a 38 going out.

His back side included a double bogey at the 445-yard par-4 third and a bogey at No. 6. He birdied the fourth hole.

Georgia won the team title, for a 15-over 879 three-day total. Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, ETSU and Clemson rounded out the top five.

Defending champion Florida finished at 37-over 901 in 10th place.

List - who has already competed in the U.S. Open once - before has already qualified for the 2005 event
