North Georgia attorney Larry D. Ruskaup, 62, turned himself into Walker County Jail April 2 after a warrant charging him with theft by conversion was issued.

Sheriff Steve Wilson said the district attorney’s office, GBI, and sheriff’s office initiated the investigation after receiving a complaint from the Georgia Bar Association. The complaint was about Ruskaup’s conduct with an insurance matter which involved a former client he represented in an auto accident suit.

According to the investigation, Ruskaup allegedly received approximately $18,000 from an insurance company after he received a settlement for his Walker County client. However, Ruskaup never paid his client’s percentage of the judgment.

Ruskaup was booked on the felony charge and released on his own recognizance. He will appear in court during the November 2001 Superior Court
