Donnie Allen “D.J.” Hulett Jr. on Tuesday made his first appearance in Walker County Superior Court, charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Walker County Superior Court Judge Jon “Bo” Wood did not set bond, and Hulett will remain in jail, said Steven Moore, Hulett’s attorney.

Moore and Larry Hill are representing Hulett, but Hill was out of town during the Tuesday hearing.

A preliminary hearing before Walker Chief Magistrate Jerry Day is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 11.

Hulett is accused of fatally shooting brothers Larry and Arvine Phillips at Mountain Top Boys’ Home in Villanow in July. Walker Sheriff Steve Wilson said he believes Hulett killed the brothers and stole Larry’s red Ford F-150 after the stolen vehicle Hulett was driving broke down on Ga. 136.

Moore said he has an unrelated capital case pending in Catoosa County. Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Herbert "Buzz" Franklin has not yet said if he will seek the death penalty against Hulett
