Catoosa County will have the opportunity to meet and greet Gov. Sonny Perdue and other top Republican candidates Thursday.

The governor will make a campaign stop at The Colonnade Thursday between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Described as an old-fashioned campaign rally, the free event will also feature appearances by U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, and Casey Cagle, lieutenant governor nominee.

According to the Catoosa County Republican Party, other statewide candidates expected to attend are Karen Handel, secretary of state candidate; Gary Black, agriculture commissioner candidate; and Brent Brown, labor commissioner candidate.

“The governor loves to travel the state to meet with Georgians, look them in the eye and shake their hand and tell them how much he appreciates their support,” said Derrick Dickey, spokesman for Perdue’s campaign.

Perdue and the other candidates will cover quite a bit of ground Thursday, starting in LaGrange and then on to Dallas, Rome, and finally, Catoosa.

Brad Scott, Catoosa Republican Party chairman, said he is enthusiastic that there will be great community support for the event.

“I look forward to everyone coming out to see our governor — and our governor for the next four years,” he said.

According to Scott, Perdue’s appearance will also be in support of local GOP candidates.

Perdue faces Democratic Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor in Tuesday’s election.
