Skate n Play will hold its grand opening on Friday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the former LaFayette Skating Rink, 1951 Ga. 136, LaFayette.
New owner Rex Ellison has worked very hard for the past six months on getting the newly remodeled skating center ready for the grand opening.
The kids around here really didnt have a place to go. I wanted a place for kids to come and have fun and be safe, he said.
The attractions will include a large soft play center for children ages 4-12, a toddler area for children ages 1-3, new party rooms, a stage for Christian musicians to play, a wide variety on the menu, video games, new bathrooms and a remodeled skating rink open to all ages. Skate n Play hopes to host bingo nights for senior citizens in the near future.
We want to try and make this a nice and clean family atmosphere, a place for anyone in the community and surrounding communities to come, he said.
Ellison wants to work with the community on the direction of Skate n Play.
We are open to suggestions from the community, to help keep the place continue in a direction they would want their kids to be involved in, he said.
Ellisons family and friends have assisted him in the remodeling of the new skating center. The Bank of LaFayette was very helpful in its assistance as well, he said.
We are not a day care, but a place to come for the family to get involved, he said.
Special events can be scheduled during the week and Skate n Play will be open the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving for kids to come and enjoy during their holiday break from school.
The regular scheduled hours for the weekends will be Fridays from 6-11 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11p.m., and Sundays at 1-5 p.m. Off-duty police officers will work as security from 7-11 p.m.
Come and give the place a look-over and have some fun, Ellison said.
