Qualifying for elections continues in Walker Count | Local new

Qualifying began Monday in Walker County for candidates in state and county elections.

Julia Faye Sexton with the Walker County Democratic Party’s executive committee was on hand at the Probate Court office in LaFayette to assist Democratic hopefuls with the process of qualifying.

Sexton described the Democratic turnout as "wonderful."

We have had all the Democratic incumbents qualify today, with two new people qualifying to run a Democrats," Sexton said. "We feel this is a good indication that the county is diverse in what they expect from their elected officials. We hope to continue the tradition of good government for Walker County through our Democratic candidates."

Walker County Republican Party chairman Steve Ellis said of the candidates qualifying for the upcoming elections, "We do expect all incumbents will qualify and are very excited about this great slate of Republican candidates." Ellis is responsible for qualifying Republican hopefuls in Walker County.

As of Friday morning, candidates who have qualified for the upcoming elections include:

Democrats

* Steve Wilson, incumbent, for Walker County sheriff

* Jerry Day, incumbent, for Walker County magistrate judge

* Ross Littlejohn for Walker magistrate judge

* Foy Johnson, incumbent, for Walker County probate judge

* Carolyn Walker, incumbent, for Walker County tax commissioner

* P.J. Wilson for Walker County commissioner

* Bill McDaniel, incumbent, for clerk of Walker County Superior Court

* Jody Green for clerk of Walker County Superior Court

* Debbie Lawrence for clerk of Walker County Superior Court

* Ronald Cabero for Walker County coroner

* Heather Pickard for Walker County school board Post 4

* Sadie Morgan for District 2, Georgia House

* Bruce Coker for District 53, Georgia Senate

* Jeff Scott for the District 9, U.S. House

Republicans

* Bebe Heiskell, incumbent, for Walker County commissioner

* Andy Hames for Walker County commissioner

* Carter Brown for clerk of Walker County Superior Court

* Charles Wardlaw, incumbent, for Walker County surveyor

* Dewayne Wilson, incumbent, for Walker County coroner
