The fire that destroyed Quality Carpet Cushion on Sunday originated from a machine, fire officials said.

Quality Carpet, at 110 McCarter Road in LaFayette, manufactures carpet padding and employs about 75 people.

More than a half-dozen rescue units and fire departments were called out to fight the fire, which erupted about 4 p.m. They included East Ridge (Tennessee) Fire Department, Hamilton County (Tennessee) Fire and Rescue, Fort Oglethorpe Fire Department, Rossville Fire Department, Walker County Fire Department, Catoosa County Fire Department, Walker State Prison Fire Department, Hayes State Prison Fire Department, and the Summerville Fire Department.

Additional assistance for on-site operations came from Walker County Public Works and the city of LaFayette Public Works.

The building and its contents received heavy fire, smoke and water damage.

A nearby mobile home park was evacuated for three hours.

No injuries were reported in the fire.
