A Rossville woman and her boyfriend remained behind bars Tuesday morning on charges of cruelty to the woman’s infant son.

Sandy Renee Tramble, 23, and Kenneth Scott Moreland Jr., 24, were arrested Aug. 20, said Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson. Each has been charged with two counts of cruelty to children, with bond set at $20,000 for each.

“The child had been taken to Hutcheson Medical Center and our detectives were notified of a possible child abuse case at the emergency room last Wednesday morning,” Wilson said.

Wilson said the mother took the child to Hutcheson Medical late at night on Aug. 19.

The 7-month-old child was released from Hutcheson Medical on Aug. 22 and is in the custody of Family and Children Services.

He had bruises, abrasions and evidence of trauma, but no broken bones, Wilson said. “One of his ears was severely damaged and his scrotum was badly bruised and then he had other bruises about his body,” Wilson said.

The infant appeared very underdeveloped for a 7-month-old, the sheriff said.

He is scheduled for surgery on his ear later this week, he said.

The mother and her boyfriend also face cruelty charges in Catoosa County, the sheriff said.

“Up until recently, within the last 30 days, they were living in Catoosa County, and through the investigation we were able to determine that some of the alleged abuse occurred in Catoosa County and some of it occurred in Walker County. So that is the reason there has been separate charges in both counties,” Wilson said.
