In last Friday’s edition of the Walker County Messenger, our editorial staff explored the existence of several notable government Web sites in the county which link residents to important information.

The Internet can be a valuable tool for the county, not only as an information source, but also as a way of possibly attracting future residents and industry.

The Northwest Georgia Joint Development Authority and the Walker County Chamber of Commerce both have Web sites in efforts to lure visitors and industry here, and Walker County Commissioner Bebe Heiskell has plans to update the county government site.

The cities of Chickamauga and Lookout Mountain have sites, and plans are under way in Rossville and LaFayette to join the Internet parade. The Walker County and Chickamauga city school systems both have comprehensive Web sites, allowing users to access school calendars and news, event information and meeting schedules, among other things.

The Internet is growing and changing every day as more people around the globe get on the information superhighway. The county’s aim to bring more tourism and industry is a function the Internet can greatly assist and accelerate.

We are encouraged county leaders know how the powerful Internet can help people all over the world learn about what Walker communities have to offer
