The LaFayette Lady Ramblers cleared a big hurdle on Monday, knocking off Northwest Whitfield to remain unbeaten in region play with a narrow 3-2 win.

LaFayette is 5-1 overall and 5-0 in 7-AAAA.

Lindsey Wable opened with a win for the Lady Bruins in girls’ singles as she beat Cherish McWhorter 6-4, 6-2. Destiny Frye responded for LaFayette by dropping Kelly Mecyssine 6-4, 6-3 and Lindsey Large came back from one set down to beat Melissa Cowart 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

The Lady Bruins tied up the match in the first doubles’ match as Jill terry and Amanda Springfield beat Megan Henry and Jill Brannon 6-4, 6-4. It came down to the final doubles’ match, but the team of Lindsay Shrader and Amanda James outlasted Rachel Pacheco and Courtney Groves 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to win the overall match for LaFayette.

The Ramblers boys were not as fortunate, losing 5-0 to the Bruins.

Kurt Painter beat Jeff Wallace 6-0, 6-0. Korrie Curry stopped Cole Bowman 6-1, 6-4 and Josh Crandell had to endure a third set tiebreaker against Michael Leming before emerging with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) win.

In doubles, Whit Aldridge and Matt Lamb beat Tony Black and Justin Scott 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 and Eric Manley and Craig Skidmore stopped Justin Mosely and Terry Shropshire in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

The Ramblers are 1-5 overall in 2002. LaFayette next match will be April 11 at home against Rome. It will be the last home match for the season for the Ramblers.

Gordon Lee stays perfect

The beat keeps going on for the Gordon Lee tennis teams.

The Trojans and Lady Trojans both recorded 4-1 wins at Trion on Monday to run their overall records to a perfect 4-0.

On the girls’ side, Courtney Stansell beat Meghan Howard 8-5. Katie Forrester claimed an 8-3 win over Brittany Griffitt. Trion’s only win came as Tiffany Helms got past Amanda Browning 8-6.

In doubles, Leslie Judge and Ashley Oliver beat Heather Hutchins and Brittanie Witt 8-5 and the team of Ashley ward and Ashley Nettles thumped Brandy Chamlee and Mallari Willingham 8-1.

The Gordon Lee boys also took a 4-1 win. Scott Kisor defeated Elliott Manning 8-3, Nick Fike took down Adam Smith 8-6 and Kevin Guffey blasted Ty Hutchins 8-1.

In doubles, Owen Miller and Kraig Guffey stopped Blake Anderson and John Broome 8-3. Trion’s lone win was by Daniel Little and Dalton Gilreath as they beat Corey Miller and Brad Gray 8-5.

The Trojans’ match against Lookout Valley was cancelled and the matches against Bremen and Temple were postponed. No make-up date has been announced. Gordon Lee will next play on April 9 at Warner park in Chattanooga against Notre Dame
