LaFayette’s Jack Grooms had another outstanding showing for the Rambler wrestling team at the Carpet Classic in Dalton over the weekend.

Grooms placed second in the 140-pound weight class after dropping a 10-4 decision to Jameson Cagle of Cleveland, Tenn. in the champion finals.

Jon Franks (135) and Josh Yarbrough (160) were the only other two Ramblers to place as each finished sixth in their respective weight classes.

Cleveland won the meet with 250 points, winning by 75 points over second-place Ringgold. Starr’s Mill of Atlanta was third with 166.5 points. LaFayette finished 11th with 64 and Ridgeland 16th with six points.

LaFayette lost two dual meets at LFO last Tuesday. The Ramblers fell to host LFO by a 57-24 count. Winning for the Ramblers were Jonathan DeLay (103) who scored a pinfall for his first-ever varsity win, Grooms (140) and Dakota Jones (275), both of whom won by pin. Chris Battles also picked up a forfeit win at 189 pounds.

The Ramblers then lost to Ringgold 66-12. Franks scored a pin at 135 pounds while Jones won his match by forfeit.

Ridgeland dropped a 49-26 dual match at Gordon Central this past Thursday. No results were available at press time.

The Gordon Lee wrestling team participated in the Adairsville Invitational this past weekend.

Nathan Lewis (135) lost in the consolation quarterfinals while Jon Oyer (103) won his first match, but lost the next two to be eliminated.

The Trojans will wrestle at the Bowdon Invitational this weekend
