As a No. 7 seed, Chattanooga Valley Middle School was almost an afterthought when the North Georgia Athletic Conference softball tournament began on Monday.
Now the Lady Eagles are on the brink of becoming champions.
Two upsets in three days have CVMS in the NGAC championship finals.
On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles stunned No. 2 seed Gordon Lee, 2-1, as winning pitcher Becca Templeton scattered nine hits and struck out three. She also drove in a run while Aimie Davidson added a RBI in the upset of the Lady Trojans.
Then on Thursday, Templeton allowed just three hits and fanned nine as CVMS shocked No. 3 seed LaFayette, 3-0, in a semifinal matchup.
All three runs came in the fourth inning as Abby McKinney hit a two-out, three-run triple to give Templeton all the run support she would need.
Every hitter in the lineup had at least one hit for the Lady Eagles, who will face top seed Heritage in the NGAC finals.
The Lady Generals will play at Chattanooga Valley on Friday at 4:30 in the first game of the best-of-three series.
The scene will shift to Heritage for the remainder of the series on Saturday. The starting time for Game 2 was not determined as of press time.
