The Catoosa County road department this week has a crew on Hooper and West Nickajack roads in the Woodstation community striping a little more than seven miles of road.

The striping will continue into next week.

In a recent county Board of Commissioners meeting, county manager Mike Helton announced a countywide ini-tiative to stripe approximately 127 miles of road.

Helton said the project will be done in-house to save county funds. He said the project will cost around $68,000 if done with county employees and county-purchased equipment. He said the estimated cost for striping with a pri-vate contractor was $154,237.

The project will be paid for with special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) funds.

Helton said many roads in Catoosa have not received striping in five to six years. When roads were striped, Helton said, the process was done through the state’s Local Assistance Road Program (LARP).

Major roads to be striped include Boynton Drive at around 9 miles, Burning Bush and Dietz Road at around 7 miles, Three Notch at around 7 miles, and Salem Valley Road at around 7 miles.
