Ringgold City Council, during its regular meeting Monday night, approved a Day of Prayer event to take place May 6 at the Depot.

“It’s a special event, and we’re really excited about it,” said Clyde Painter, pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church in Rocky Face. “It’s just a chance for people of Ringgold to come together for prayer.”

Initial discussions involved the event possibly taking place on Maple Street next to the Catoosa County Courthouse. But due to traffic and court concerns, the event will be held at the Ringgold Depot in downtown Ringgold.

“It’s a congested area around the courthouse, and we didn’t want to be a hindrance,” Painter said. “The good thing about being at the Depot is that if the weather becomes an issue, we can always take things inside.”

Ringgold’s National Day of Prayer event will take place on Thursday, May 6, from noon to 1 p.m.

“We realize that it might be hard for some people to attend, with it taking place during lunch time on a workday. But whether it be for family, friends, church, or government, it will be an opportunity for the city to pray together,” Painter said.

In other business at Mondays' Ringgold City Council meeting:

· The council approved court-appointed special advocates representative Millie Cheek’s request to place a wooden collection box at the gravel parking lot of the Little General Family and Children’s Park for those wishing to make donations.

· The council approved the purchase of water meter testing equipment.
