Walker County sheriff Steve Wilson confirmed that the man is a former Sheriff’s Office employee.
According to Wilson:
Authorities were notified about 7:30 p.m. Monday that a man living on Flatstone Drive, off Bell Road, in LaFayette was threatening suicide. He went into woods behind his residence with a gun and fired a shot either into the air or into the ground.
Authorities talked to him for several hours before he came out of the woods. He was taken to Hutchison Medical Center for mental evaluation.
During the ordeal neighborhood residences were evacuated for safety.
No charges have been filed.
“Someone had an emotional episode,” Wilson said. “Our ultimate goal is to resolve it, without anyone being injured.”

Reasoning for why they are not mentioned has more to do with mental health and not a crime. As for other citizens inconvienence, it is the same senario of being stuck in traffic for hours behind a wreck. It's an unfortunate situation, one which we can't judge until we have taken a long walk in those shoes. Telling a story doesn't involve intimidating a family member over a personal matter, at least not an ethical story anyway. Sounds more like talk radio banter, but not 102.3....
Maybe he is fortunate that officers worked with and knew him since he had a gun. If John Q Public brandishes a weapon that long, the outcome may have been quite different.
The reason you didn't hear anything about it was because it was "one of their own." Goto "http://www.cityoflafayettega.com/" they have the full story there.
