Scholarships were the main topic at the April meeting of the Walker County Retired Educators Association. Students who had applied for the scholarships were the guests of honor at the brunch and were recognized for their achievements. Mary Black, president of WCREA, awarded the scholarships to Jensen O’Neal from Gordon Lee High School, Taylor Pence from LaFayette High School and Bethany Crabtree from Ridgeland. Other applicants from each school were: Amanda McCraine, Caitlyn Evans, Laurie Bolin, and Brittany Hathshorn of LaFayette High School; Marissa Martin, Brandon Boyd, Chelsea Tarvin, and Taylor Pace of Gordon Lee, and Jessica Brookshire of Ridgeland.
In addition to the scholarships, the May tour of Walker County Schools was discussed. Elain Womack presented Walker County Retired Educators with a schedule of the tour. The schedule is:
Monday, May 10, 8:45-9:45 – tour Rossville Elementary; 9:45 – bus to Ridgeland; 10-11:00 – tour of Ridgeland; 11:00 – bus back to Rossville Elementary.
Tuesday, May 11, 8:30-9:30 – tour Rock Spring Elementary; 9:30 – bus to LaFayette Middle; 10-11:00 – tour LaFayette Middle; 11:00 – bus back to Rock Spring.
The scheduled visit to the planetarium has been cancelled. The May meeting place is still being considered. Next year’s officers will be installed at the May meeting.
