The mascot was unveiled in a ceremony today after being selected based on online voting done by faculty, staff, and the nearly 6,000 students of GNTC’s four campuses.
The Bobcat will replace the Bruin of Coosa Valley Technical College and the Mustang of Northwestern Technical College, which merged to form GNTC.
The men’s and women’s basketball teams of Georgia Northwestern will be the first programs to sport the Bobcat on their uniforms. Their seasons begin this November.
“We’re excited we have a new logo and can move forward with our athletics program,” said Stuart Phillips, vice president of student affairs at GNTC.
He said that in addition to the Bobcats, other mascot finalists were the Mountain Lions, the Blue Rebels, the Pride and the Patriots.
