Catoosa County will now have to wait a little longer to shop at Costco.
Fort Oglethorpe mayor Ronnie Cobb said the business moved its opening date from the end of August to the beginning of September, then to Oct. 28.
It will be located at Cloud Springs and Scruggs Road on I-75 in Fort Oglethorpe.
Cobb said there was little explanation behind moving the date other than it being a “corporate decision” by Costco.
However, Cobb said the city’s progress with the site is “ongoing.”
“Our codes enforcer is issuing work permits and the traffic signal at Scruggs Road is up but is not operable at this point,” Cobb said.
Cobb said Costco has hired a store manager and began pouring the concrete slab for the building around midnight on Friday, June 25.
“There is something going on on all 16 acres of the site. It looks like an ant hill,” he said, referring to how busy it is.
Costco will begin accepting applications for workers around the middle of August and start stocking shelves about four weeks before the store opens, company officials said.
